The ESTOU AQUI!® Program was designed so that you never miss a moment with your children.

I'M HERE - Children's safety program: the wristband is available, completely free of charge, in any PSP Police Station. If your child gets lost it will be easier to reach him and say: HE'S HERE!

Wristbands may exceptionally be provided for children under the age of 2 if they are visibly able to walk by themselves.

Wristbands

The ESTOU AQUI!® wristband was developed with high quality standards. The tests carried out ensure that the fabric can last up to 12 months without it losing quality.

The wristband consists of a fabric strip that contains an alphanumeric code and the inscription "Call/LIGA 112".

The wristband is personal and non-transferable.

No GPS

The wristband does not have a GPS locator or any other tracking system.

Data Alteration, cancellation or loss

All requests for data change, cancellation due to degradation or loss of the wristband must be sent by email to estouaqui@psp.pt, specifying the wristband number, email and telephone contact indicated in the registration.

Frequently Asked Questions

i. What is the purpose of the Estou Aqui Crianças program?

This program aims use the wristband to enable a lost child or young person to more quickly reunite with their family members.

Although we are aware that many children know the contact details of some relative, either due to anxiety or panic when they feel lost or simply because they follow the family's recommendations not to give out information about themselves or their family to people they do not know, they usually do not provide information that would allow a quick solution to the situation.

Through the Estou Aqui Crianças wristband, an adult who finds a lost child need only contact 112 and inform where he or she is and the wristband code. With this information, the police can immediately contact the family and go to the place where the child is to collect him/her and ensure the family reunion.

The child, while knowing, does not need to share any family information with strangers.

ii. What should children know about the Estou Aqui Crianças program?

The Public Security Police recommends that families taking part in the program make the children aware that this is a PSP program to protect them and that, in situations where they are lost or do not know where they are and are alone, they can go to an adult (preferably a police officer, military, firefighter, health professional, etc.), show them the wristband and code and ask that person to call 112.

This information will be enough for our program to work, for the PSP police officers to pick up the child, and to alert the family members (mentioned in the application form).

iii. What is the role of the Public Security Police (PSP) in the Estou Aqui Crianaças (EAC) program?

The PSP conceived the EAC program in 2012 and, along with partners, ensures its operation every day of the year, 24 hours a day.

The PSP guarantees the delivery of the wristband at police stations throughout the country, ensures the confidentiality and management of the information provided in the registration, receives and manages the alerts of the appearance of a child in the national emergency service 112 and promotes the reunion of the child with the family.

iV. How much does it cost to join the EAC program?

The EAC is 100% free for all citizens. This means no registration, membership, re-registration or other costs of any kind. If any amount is requested, for any reason, we ask you to inform us immediately (at a PSP Police Station or estouaqui@psp.pt).

v. If the child with the EAC wristband gets lost, can the PSP immediately know where he/she is and what his/her status is at the moment?

The EAC wristband does not collect any data (medical, biometric or otherwise) nor does it have any GPS connection. Thus, in case of the disappearance of a child enrolled in the program and wearing the EAC wristband, the PSP does not immediately determine the location, health status, or any other information about the child.

vi. Who can register a child in the EAC?

Children between 2 and 15 years old can be registered by a parent, guardian, or another person who is responsible for the child (nominal registration) or by the person responsible for a group of children (group registration - teacher or educator, activity leader, sports group, or summer camp).

Under EAC rules, the person enrolling the child in the program has the responsibility to inform others who also have a legal duty of care for the child and a right to know about the child’s registration in the program.

In the case of group registrations, it is mandatory to also add the contact details of the parents, guardian, or person legally responsible for the registered child.

vii. After registering on EAC’s official site, can the wristband be picked up at a location of the person’s choice or delivered to their home?

After registering on the program's official site, the wristband can only be collected at a PSP Police Station designated by the registering person. This moment is especially important for the EAC’s operation since the Police Officer will verify that the information provided during the registration is complete, and will then match the alphanumeric code of the wristband with the registered child. This way, in case of an emergency, the PSP can quickly contact the person(s) responsible for the child and allow the child to reunite with his/her family.

The wristband may be handed to a third party, provided that this is indicated at the time of registration.

viii. Is the EAC active all year long or only during the summer?

This PSP program is active all year long, for the entire country.

In its early years, the EAC was only active during the summer but it has evolved and now remains active at all times, i.e. 365 days a year.

ix. Can children older than 15 years old continue to benefit from the EAC program?

The EAC program covers children between the ages of 2 and 15. After that age range and after the EAC wristband expires, to continue to use this type of security provided by the PSP, you can register in the program Estou Aqui Adultos (EAA).

x. Who accesses the data provided during the EAC registration?

a. After registering at the program site, when going to the Police Station, the registration data is accessed and verified and matched to the alphanumeric code of the wristband by one of the N/Policemen.

b. In case of a report of a lost child, found by another person who contacts 112, the call is forwarded to PSP’s National Directorate where a restricted group of Police officers have access to the data that matches with the alphanumeric code of the wristband worn by the child. This data is conveyed to the Police Officers of the Police Station of the area where the child was found, who will take over the situation and ensure they are reunited with the family.

c. When the person responsible for the registration requests (via estouaqui@psp.pt) to change, update, or correct data provided during the registration, the EAC management team will access the data and respond to the request.

All accesses to the information are automatically registered by the system and the whole process is monitored by the PSP's Data Protection Officer, complying with the terms of the applicable legislation.

xi. How many people can be on the emergency contact list of a child registered in the EAC?

The emergency contact list is provided by the person who registers the child in the EAC and it may include several people who will be sequentially contacted by the PSP in case of an emergency.

Any other person who wishes to be included in this list must contact the person who formalized the registration and request their inclusion.

Even so, and in case of dispute, the PSP may deem that any person who proves to have the duty of caring for the child can be included in the list, making sure all interested parties are informed in advance.

xii. How can I change, correct or update the EAC data?

The data provided during the registration at https://estouaqui.mai.gov.pt/Pages/Home.htm can be changed, corrected or updated at any time by sending an email to estouaqui@psp.pt.

For the program to function properly during an emergency, it is essential that the data regarding the child and his or her emergency contacts are up to date.

xiii. I found an EAC wristband and I don't know which child it belongs to. What should I do?

Hand the wristband over at a Police Station and/or send an e-mail to estouaqui@psp.pt indicating the alphanumeric code.

xiv. I found a lost child with an EAC wristband. What should I do?

Immediately call 112 (the European emergency number) and inform the police officer that you have found a lost child who has the EAC wristband. Follow our directions and the police officers will meet you.

xv. I lost sight of a child registered in the EAC and wearing the wristband. What should I do?

As soon as possible, contact the Police Station in the area where the child was last seen (contacts available at https://www.psp.pt/Pages/onde-estamos.aspx) and provide all the requested information, including the alphanumeric code of the EAC wristband.

xvi. When the PSP informs that the wristband expires on 31st December of that year, does that information mean that I must return the wristband?

The wristband’s expiration date simply implies that after that date the registration information will no longer be in the system. Although the wristband may continue to be worn by the child, in an emergency it will no longer be registered in the EAC, and will not be an aid in trying to bring the child back to his/her family. In order for the family to continue to enjoy the security provided by the EAC, they must register in the new edition of the EAC.

Privacy Policy

The processing of information in the ESTOU AQUI!® program fully guarantees the rights of citizens regarding the protection of their personal data.

The requests made will be forwarded in the same way as any other request of a similar nature submitted directly to a police station.

The legal norms that regulate the systems of the identified entities are applicable to the treatment of the data provided. The PSP is the entity responsible for the data processing and the purpose is that which results from the attributions and competences of this Security Force, with a view to the provision of the program.

The information collected under the ESTOU AQUI!® service is under highly secure conditions, guaranteed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (SGMIA).

The data collected is intended for the correct identification of the person requesting the service and the adult registered, and confirmation of the information provided may be requested via email, by phone, or in person if there are doubts about the data submitted to the Program. In case of incorrect or incomplete data, for which the applicant is responsible, the Program will not be activated, and, whenever possible, the person requiring the service will be advised to correct or complete it.

The data collected are compulsory and/or optional, depending on the indication in the respective field, one way or the other. The right of access to data can be exercised by the users themselves with the PSP, under the terms of the law.
